Alkene
 
[Kurzwort], Singular Alken das, -s, Olefine, ungesättigte azyklische Kohlenwasserstoffe mit einer Doppelbindung und der allgemeinen Summenformel CnH2n (mit n = 2, 3, 4,. ..). Verbindungen mit mehreren Doppelbindungen werden Alkadiene (Diene), Alkatriene oder allgemein Polyene genannt. Die Namen der Alkene werden aus dem Wortstamm der entsprechenden Alkane durch Anhängen der Endsilbe -en abgeleitet.
 
Äthen (Äthylen), Propen (Propylen) und die Butene sind Gase, die durch Steamcracken technisch hergestellt werden. Sie sind wichtige Primärprodukte der Petrochemie. Unverzweigte Alkene (α-Olefine) mit 6-18 C-Atomen dienen zur Herstellung von Waschrohstoffen und Syntheseölen. Alkene lassen sich auch durch Dehydratisierung von Alkoholen, Dehydrochlorierung von Chlorkohlenwasserstoffen und Metathese herstellen. Alkene sind reaktionsfähiger als Alkane. Wichtige Reaktionen der Alkene sind die Polymerisation, die Addition und die Oxosynthese.
